Description

This homemade BBQ sauce is a tangy, sweet, and smoky condiment perfect for grilling, dipping, or marinating. Made from simple pantry staples and simmered to bring out rich flavors, it offers a delicious way to elevate your BBQ dishes with a balanced blend of vinegar, spices, and brown sugar.

Ingredients

Scale

BBQ Sauce Ingredients

  • 2 cups ketchup
  • ¾ cup water
  • â…“ cup apple cider vinegar
  • â…“ cup white vinegar
  • 5 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 3 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 3½ tsp chili powder
  • 1½ tsp Kosher salt
  • 1½ tsp black pepper
  • 1¼ tsp cumin

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a medium pot, whisk together ketchup, water, apple cider vinegar, white vinegar, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, Kosher salt, black pepper, and cumin until fully incorporated and smooth.
  2. Simmer the Sauce: Place the pot over medium-high heat and bring the mixture to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer gently for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking and to meld the flavors.
  3. Cool and Store: Remove the pot from heat and allow the sauce to cool completely. Transfer the cooled BBQ sauce into an airtight jar or container and refrigerate. The sauce will keep fresh for several months when stored properly.

Notes

  • This BBQ sauce can be customized by adding smoked paprika or cayenne pepper for extra smoky or spicy flavors.
  • Use this sauce to baste grilled meats, as a dipping sauce, or as a marinade for richer BBQ taste.
  • Store in a refrigerated airtight container to maintain freshness and prevent spoilage.
  • Reheat gently before using if the sauce has thickened in the refrigerator.
