Ingredients
Scale
Rice and Broth
- 1 cup long-grain rice (e.g., jasmine or basmati)
- 2 cups chicken or vegetable broth
Butter and Flavorings
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Garnish
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (optional)
Instructions
- Rinse the rice: Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear to remove excess starch. This helps to prevent the rice from becoming sticky. Set the rinsed rice aside.
- Sauté garlic in butter: In a medium saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant, stirring frequently to avoid burning the garlic.
- Toast the rice: Add the rinsed rice to the saucepan and stir well to coat all the grains with the garlic butter mixture. Toast the rice for 2-3 minutes to deepen the flavor.
- Add broth and seasoning: Pour in the chicken or vegetable broth, then add salt and black pepper. Stir everything to combine. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat.
- Simmer the rice: Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan tightly with a lid, and let the rice simmer gently for 15-18 minutes. Cook until the rice is tender and all the liquid is absorbed.
- Let it rest and fluff: Remove the saucepan from heat and keep it covered. Let the rice rest for 5 minutes to allow steam to finish cooking the rice. Then fluff the rice gently with a fork to separate the grains.
- Garnish and serve: Sprinkle the chopped fresh parsley over the garlic butter rice for a burst of color and freshness, if using. Serve the rice warm as a delicious side dish.
Notes
- Rinsing the rice removes excess starch and helps produce fluffy grains.
- Use unsalted butter to control the salt level easily.
- Chicken or vegetable broth can be used for more flavor than water.
- Fresh parsley adds a nice visual and slight fresh taste but is optional.
- Adjust salt and pepper to your taste preference.
